Basketball courts

From "Tiverton Open Space playground refurbishment."

Go to the project

There are more and more children and adults trying to play basketball but it’s difficult to compete with the football goals.

It would be great to have a basketball court as a separate entity to the football. If this is done, then proper hoops and a backboard need to be invested in. Please see Turnpike Lane (as a perfect example). Also Finsbury Park, Cherry Tree Wood, Ravenscourt Park, and Hendon Park.

I disagree with chain nets as they often fail, and then are a nuisance to fix.

It’s easy to put up material nets, if the proper rings are purchased. And what with Basketball England providing them for free it’s cost effective in the long run!

A large Perspex backboard and breakaway rings developed for outdoor use would be great. Like Turnpike Lane courts.

If at all possible the wish list would include flood lighting to the outdoor gym and basketball courts to promote health and sport in the shorter days.

Additional plyometric equipment to the outdoor gym would be great. For box jumps and varying heights of hanging/pull-up bars, additional TRX posts (like Queens Park gym).

The current basketball hoops are not fit for purpose. Like the posters suggestion. If dedicated basketball courts are not an option, fixing the hoops would be a welcome start.
