Option 1 - Demolish and rebuild as Affordable Workspace with a Community Space
From "Abbey Estate Community Centre"
Go to the project

This option involves the Council demolishing the existing community centre and replacing it with an affordable workspace and a community space for local people. The workspace would be managed by an affordable workspace operator committed to providing low cost space for start-ups and emerging local businesses.
We have looked at examples of mixed-use workspaces and community spaces to help generate some ideas about what else could take place in the new building. Tell us the kind of activities you would like to see in this facility?
- Creative based workspace (workshop space)
- Desk based workspace
- A rentable hall space for the community
- Community Café
- Allotments

This proposal could work but the size of the building would need be considered as well as other matters such as car parking? What will the new building footprint be? The new space would have to include some landscaping works to the park and be integrated in such a way that canal is also a feature. A cafe could also serve local businesses in the industrial estates.
The community hall may also need flexible space for smaller sessions as well as storage.
I am not sure about allotments as there are allotments close by. The green space could be landscaped for enjoyment and for young people's activities instead of allotments.
