One Planet - focus on sustainability
From "Tiverton Open Space playground refurbishment."
Go to the project
whatever refurbishment is undertaken or new equipment supplied, all should have an emphasis on environmental sustainability. This in both the materials used and, if design ideas can come forward, for the education of young people, on the theme of One Planet.

I want to echo other comments about sustainability and learning from best practice in other parks. Integrating style of planting of the green and the play areas would be good, and spending budget on larger trees which are less likely to be vandalised. Planting should reflect concerns about climate change, food and sustainability. Fruiting and nut trees rather than short lived ornamentals for example. I would like to see more wild areas, plus raised beds for community food growing. And leaving enough open space to play rounders and have dogs run around. Older children/teens are rarely catered for in a plan like this, but it would be nice if they could be included in community planning rather than seen solely as social pariahs. Safe lighting/seating areas would help. There’s an initiative I heard of about including girls in park planning as they often feel unsafe/unwelcome
