Programme to adapt Brent's 90,000 homes to Climate Change
From "Draft Borough Plan Priorities"
Go to the project
The subject of climate change is almost completely missing from the draft. It is just mentioned in Priority 2 but among clean streets and ASB. There is nothing in Priority 3 which is about housing but has an obscure and misleading title. To move towards Net Zero and to keep warm in the current fuel cost crisis we need a major Council-led campaign combining incentives and advice radically to improve the energy efficiency of homes in all tenures and especially pre-1919 homes without cavity walls AND to promote a switch to low or no carbon fuels.

I fully support this proposal. Brent talks a lot about climate change but takes very little action.
With joined-up policies on climate Brent could address the following::
enhance energy efficiency of older housing stock
reduce air pollution
reduce traffic noise
increase active travel and provide safer space for cycling & walking
improve physical and mental health of residents
improve community relations
We urge Brent Council to have the determination to follow through and stand by their own Healthy Neighbourhood schemes and expect our elected Councillors to take a strategic, forward thinking view of our environment and communities.
Labour promises in 2020 were to make England one of the most cycling and walking friendly places in the world. Now we expect Brent Councillors to help make that happen in 2023-2027.

@Sarah Tomlin Dear Sarah - Thanks for support. The Government has announced Eco+ grants for lofts and cavity walls but this won't help older houses , about 30% of the Brent stock. Robin

I fully support this proposal. There are so many similar houses in our area. It is crying out for Council incentives and advice on how best to insulate and move away from fossil fuels.

I support this proposal, and am very disappointed that the draft Borough plan is so weak on climate measures

Thanks to Keith and Elaine but if we don't get more support the Council may think they are right to neglect climate change. Only Councils and Central Government have the reach to promote a campaign about home insulation and alternatives to fossil fuels.

It is very surprising that the draft plan has so little on climate and this issue in particular - especially in the context of the current fuel poverty crisis. I fully support this proposal.

The Committee of Kilburn Village Residents Association wholeheartedly supports this contribution. 90%+ of housing in Kilburn Ward North of the mainline railway is pre-1900
