STOP the 2-wheels-up parking on residential streets

Sarah Tomlin•3 years ago Labour promises in 2020 were to make England one of the most cycling and walking friendly places in the world. Yet in Brent we have hardly any protected cycle lanes AND council policy seems to support cars parking on the pavements - taking space AWAY from pedestrians and giving even MORE of our precious walking space to cars!!! I have seen 3 residential roads in just my area converted to 2-wheels-up parking in recent years -> Victoria Road NW6-> The Avenue NW6-> Roundwood Road, NW10.These roads were already 'rat runs' and cannabilizing the pavement for parked cars will make them worse not better!! It really upsets me when I think of parents with pushchairs and residents in wheelchairs having to navigate the reduced walking space. This policy needs to STOP and be reversed where it has already happened.Brent talks a lot about climate change but takes very little action. Some of it in the WRONG direction. And I'm not convinced the new borough plan is going to make any difference to the current direction of travel. With joined-up policies on climate Brent could address the following::reduce air pollution and traffic noiseincrease active travel and provide safer space for cycling & walkingimprove physical and mental health of residentsimprove community cohesionI urge Brent Council to have the determination to follow through and stand by their own Healthy Neighbourhood schemes and expect our elected Councillors to take a strategic, forward thinking view of our environment and communities.
