Draft Budget Plan

Consultation: Setting a balanced budget for 2023/24
On 17 November, the Government announced that councils could increase Council Tax by up to 4.99%. This decision came after the draft budget 2023/24 had been agreed, however we are now consulting on proposals to increase Council Tax in Brent by 4.99% with 2% ringfenced for adult social care. This would help protect essential services and provide much needed growth and stability in the budget. As always, Brent’s £32 million Council Tax Support Scheme would continue to provide financial support for residents who need help to pay their Council Tax. You can find out more about why the council needs to increase Council Tax and make savings by reading the draft budget 2023/24 report.
In the current year 2022/23, further information about how the Council spends your money can be found on the following link:
Brent Council would like to invite people who live and work in this borough to tell us their views on the proposals for the 2023/24 Budget.
We want to know what services are the most important to local people so we can make the best decisions about where to make savings.
The new proposals for 2023/24 are designed to limit, as far as possible, service reductions and the impact on front line services particularly during these challenging times.
Because of the complex nature of the council’s budget, this area of engagement aims to:
- Inform residents of the financial challenges we face
- Explain the need to reduce spending by £18m
- Explain the ways savings will be achieved
- Receive feedback on the above – and capture the reaction and response to the financial position.
We would like to receive feedback on our ambitions and the council’s budget pressures.
