Dudden Hill Lane Crossing Scheme
Following the expansion of the School Street scheme at Northview Junior and Infant School to improve road safety for pupils crossing Dudden Hill Lane to access the school, a proposal has been developed to introduce a zebra crossing.
This scheme aims to complement the School Street by providing a safer and more accessible crossing facility for pupils travelling to and from Northview Junior and Infant School.
As part of the proposal, the existing uncontrolled crossing on Dudden Hill Lane, just north of Mulgrave Road, would be upgraded to a zebra crossing to provide a safer and more convenient crossing point for pedestrians.
In addition, anti-skid carriageway surfacing is proposed on both the northbound and southbound approaches to the crossing to improve vehicle braking performance. To further reduce vehicle speeds, particularly given the steep downhill gradient on the southern approach to the crossing, three speed cushions are also proposed on the southbound approach to Dudden Hill Lane.

The proposed improvements are summarised below:
Upgrade of existing uncontrolled crossing – The uncontrolled crossing located on Dudden Hill Lane north of Mulgrave Road will be converted to a zebra crossing. The aim is to improve pedestrian priority and accessibility by providing a safer crossing facility for pedestrians, particularly due to the close proximity of the crossing to Northview Junior and Infant School.
Anti-skid surfacing – Anti-skid surfacing will be provided for on the north and south approaches to the crossing to increase skid resistance and reduce braking distances.
Speed cushions – Three speed cushions will be provided on the southern approach of the crossing, approximately 30m south of the crossing. Dudden Hill Lane on the southern approach of the crossing has a steep downhill gradient. These speed cushions aim to reduce the speeds of vehicles approaching the crossing.
