Harlesden Road Area 7.5T Weight Restriction
Each year we review roads across Brent where ongoing traffic and environmental concerns affect residents and road users. As part of this process, we consider measures that could improve safety, reduce disruption and enhance the local environment.
Harlesden Road, together with the surrounding residential streets, have been identified as an area experiencing high levels of Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) traffic. The Council has received several complaints from residents regarding the impact of large vehicles travelling through the area, particularly related to noise and vibrations affecting nearby properties.
To address these concerns, we are proposing the introduction of a 7.5 tonne weight restriction, except for access. The proposed restriction would prohibit HGVs exceeding 7.5 tonnes from using Harlesden Road and the surrounding streets, unless access is required for local deliveries, emergency services or highway maintenance activities.

A summary of the proposed improvements is summarised below:
7.5T Weight Restriction – A new 7.5 tonne weight restriction is proposed on Harlesden Road up to its junction with Pound Lane. The restriction will also apply to the following roads in the surrounding area: Bertie Road, Strode Road, Hawthorn Road, Maybury Gardens, Gowan Road, St. Andrew’s Road, Parkfield Road, Litchfield Gardens and Clare Road.
Traffic Signs – New weight restriction signs will be introduced at key entry points to clearly inform drivers of the restriction and reduce unnecessary HGV movements through in the area.
Improved Road Safety – The proposed restriction is expected to improve road safety and create a more suitable environment for pedestrians, cyclists and other road users.
Environmental Benefits – Reducing HGV traffic is expected to lessen noise and vibration levels, helping to improve local conditions and overall quality of life for residents.
