Have Your Say: New pedestrian and cycle bridge at Alperton

As the Grand Union development at Alperton is delivered and new residents move in, Brent Council is looking to improve accessibility by building a new pedestrian and cycle bridge across the Grand Union Canal Paddington Arm at Alperton.

The new bridge will be located near the North Circular Aqueduct. It will provide a more direct east-west pedestrian and cycle network in and around Alperton, connecting the Grand Union development to the towpath on the southwestern side of the canal, the Abbey Estate and the shops beyond and Park Royal employment and commercial hub.

The new bridge will bring benefits to the local community by:

  •  reducing journey times to key locations in the area;
  •  enabling safer off-road walking and cycling;
  •  encouraging boating, canoeing or other activities on the canal;
  • boosting health and wellbeing and spending more time in peaceful locations away from busy areas.

We’re keen to hear what local people have to say about the emerging proposals for the new bridge and we want to hear your ideas for local wildlife and public art.

If you have any stories about the history and heritage of Alperton please tell us, so we can make sure this new bridge acknowledges our areas rich past through public art or a plaque! You can also help us choose a name for the new bridge!

A public consultation on the proposals for the new bridge will open on Monday 16 June 2025 at 9am, running through to 11:59pm on Friday 25 July 2025. Your feedback will help us to develop our plans ahead of submitting a planning application later this year.
