Kenton Road/Woodcock Hill Junction Improvement & 20mph zone
Each year we identify junction and streets in Brent with the highest number of personal injury accidents and look at introducing road safety measures which may help in reducing the number of collisions that occur.
The junction of Kenton Road and Woodcock Hill has been identified as a ‘High’ priority for collisions, and the section of Woodcock Hill (between Kenton Road and Donnington Road) has been identified as ‘Medium’ priority. From the latest three years accident data available (Nov 2021-Aug 2024) there have been 20 personal injury accidents, 5 serious and 15 slight accidents. These accidents involved 38 vehicles, 1 pedal cycles and 21 casualties, of which 5 were pedestrians. The Council has also received several enquiries and a petition regarding the lack of controlled crossing facilities at the junction.
Due to the high number of accidents in the past 3-years, we are proposing changes that aim to improve road safety by improving crossing facilities for pedestrians and reducing vehicle speeds. Currently, only one arm of the junction of has signalised pedestrian crossings, and the proposed design explore options to provide safe crossings where possible whilst also minimising delays to traffic, particularly buses.

The proposed improvements are summarised below:
- Signalized Pedestrian Crossing Facilities – Two new pedestrian crossings are proposed at the Kenton Road/Woodcock Hill junction. One across Woodcock Hill and one is approximately 30m west of the junction on Kenton Road (East). To facilitate these improvements, a right turn restriction and the relocation of the existing bus stop are also proposed. The aim is to improve pedestrian priority and accessibility.
- Bus Lane– A new peak hour bus lane is proposed on Kenton Road (westbound). The aim is to improve bus reliability and encourage greater use of public transport.
- 20mph Zone – A new 20mph speed limit is proposed on part of Woodcock Hill between Kenton Road and Donnington Road. This will help to reduce vehicle speed and the severity of accidents.
- Traffic Calming Features – Raised speed table and new speed cushions will be introduced to reduce vehicle speeds on part of Woodcock Hill
Road markings and signs –20mph road marking roundels and zone signs are also proposed to remind drivers of the new 20mph speed limit.
