Oakington Manor School Street
We are proposing the extension of the current School Street to extend Oakington Manor Drive from the junction of Victoria Avenue to Wyld Way, Wyld Way from the junction of Vivian Avenue to Grove Way and include Brent Way, Wembley Way and Chalfont Avenue up to the junction of Vivian Ave, including the current restriction on Chippenham Avenue. This is part of Brent Council's broader initiative to enhance air quality, promote children's health, address the climate emergency, and create a safer environment for children to walk and cycle. The primary goal of this scheme is to encourage and support the adoption of greener and more active forms of transport.
In alignment with the Council's commitment to improvements around schools in the borough, the implementation of School Streets is a key component of our strategy. These initiatives contribute not only to the immediate safety and well-being of children but also align with our broader objectives of fostering a healthier and more sustainable community. Through such measures, we aim to create a positive impact on air quality, promote physical activity, and improve road safety.
Phases
Consultation
A School Street is a road outside (or very close to) a school where motorised traffic is restricted at specific times to make the area safer, quieter, and less polluted for children and families.
The scheme will operate Monday to Friday during school term time, from 8:15am to 9:15am in the morning and from 2:30pm to 4:00pm in the afternoon. School term dates can be found here:
https://www.brent.gov.uk/services-for-residents/education-and-schools/term-dates/
Residents who live within the zone, as marked by the red area on the attached map, along with emergency vehicles, will be exempt from these restrictions.
The road will remain open to pedestrians and cyclists at all times.
The main aim of the scheme is to make the route to school safer for pupils by reducing the volume of cars, lowering air pollution, and encouraging more walking and cycling.
