Paddington Old Cemetery Chapel Survey
Paddington Old Cemetery is an important historic site. It is on the National Heritage List and has been designated a Grade II status.
While the cemetery is well used as an open space and continues to be a working cemetery, the chapel buildings at the heart of the cemetery are not currently in use because extensive repairs are needed to make them safe. One of the chapels remains consecrated, while the other is not.
With the support of the Pilgrim Trust and the National Lottery Heritage Fund there is currently an opportunity for Brent Council and the Friends of Paddington Old Cemetery to review options for the future of the chapels.
Your views will help shape a set of options for the future of these historic buildings. The options will be shared across the community in September 2024.
More information can be found here. The link to the virtual tour of the buildings here.

Phases
Phase 2 Consultation – Initial architectural ideas
This is the second phase of consultation on exploring a new and sustainable future for the historic chapels in Paddington Old Cemetery.
In June 2024, we asked the public their thoughts on the Chapels, and to offer ideas for their reuse. We had nearly 300 responses, providing a range of suggestions for the buildings might be brought back into use.
Since then, our professional team of conservation architects, business planners, heritage and community consultants, have been combining the findings of the initial consultation with their different expertise to develop some initial schemes for bringing the chapels back into use in an appropriate and sustainable way.
It’s not always possible to keep old buildings exactly as they were built. Often this is because the layout of old buildings doesn’t best suit modern needs. Sometimes we have to consider changing some parts of old buildings so we can make them functional and help more people access and enjoy them.
We have produced five Layouts that show different ways the Chapels could be adapted and reused. They are just suggestions at the moment and nothing is confirmed. We want to see what people think, to help the professional team narrow down the viable possibilities. You might find you like some parts of one Layout and some parts of others. The accompanying images are there to help you visualise some of the possible changes and new uses.
Please explore the Virtual Tour of the Chapels and look at the five layouts and accompanying images via this link: https://londonhistoricbuildings.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/POC_Feasibility-Options-Online-Consultation.pdf. Then answer the short survey.
Thank you for taking part.
