Park Lane Local Safety Scheme
The proposed improvements are summarised below:
· 20mph Zone – A new 20mph speed limit will be introduced on Park Lane. This will help to reduce vehicle speeds and severity of accidents.
· Traffic Calming Features – Raised speed tables will be introduced along the road to reduce vehicle speeds.
· Upgrade of the existing zebra crossing – the zebra crossing adjacent to Park Lane Primary School will be replaced by a traffic light-controlled crossing. The aim is to improve pedestrian priority and accessibility, to enable pedestrians to cross the road in a safe manner, also improve drivers’ behaviour and reduce the traffic speeds.
· Raised existing crossing point – the crossing point outside the King Edward VII Park entrance will be raised. This will provide a safer and step-free crossing point for pedestrians.
Road markings and signs – Vehicle Activated Signs and 20mph road marking roundels are also proposed to remind motorist of the 20mph speed limit.
Phases
Consultation - Park Lane Local Safety Scheme
Each year we identify roads and locations in Brent with the high numbers of road traffic collisions and look at introducing road safety measures to help reduce the number of accidents.
From the latest five years accident data available (August 2018 to June 2023), there have been fourteen personal injury accidents in Park Lane between the junctions with Wembley Hill Road and A404 High Road. Of the fourteen recorded accidents, twelve resulted in slight severity accidents and two resulted in serious severity accidents. Two serious accidents occurred on Park Lane, one near the junction with Dagmar Avenue, and the other near Elm Road. Ten of these accidents involved a motorcycle and two accidents involved pedestrians.
As part of the safety improvement scheme, we are proposing to upgrade the existing zebra crossing to a traffic light-controlled crossing adjacent to Park Lane Primary School. A 20mph zone is also proposed on Park Lane, with the aim to reduce the speed of vehicles and to improve pedestrian’s accessibility in Park Lane.
