Princes Avenue Green Corridor

The proposed improvements are summarised below:

·  20mph Zone – A new 20mph speed limit will be introduced on part of Princes Avenue (between Winchester Avenue and Honeypot Lane), Berkeley Road, Brampton Road, Grosvenor Crescent and Leybourne Road. This will help to reduce vehicle speed and the severity of accidents.

· Traffic Calming Features – Raised speed tables will be introduced, and existing speed cushions will be replaced with sinusoidal (smooth top speed humps) humps to reduce vehicle speeds.

·  Proposed zebra crossing – A new zebra crossing is proposed on Princes Avenue by the entrance of Kingsbury High School. The aim is to improve pedestrian priority and accessibility, to enable pedestrians to cross the road in a safe manner, also improve drivers’ behavior and reduce the traffic speeds.

·  Road markings and signs – Vehicle Activated Signs, 20mph road marking roundels are also proposed to remind drivers of the new 20mph speed limit.

Proposed cycle contraflow– The cycle contraflow is proposed along Brampton Road and Berkely Road to allow cyclists to travel safely in both directions on the one-way street. The aim is to improve connectivity for cyclists and encourage active travel

The scheme forms part of the Council’s place-based approach to taking climate action, with Kingsbury identified as an area with potential for enhancing and linking green and active travel infrastructure known as ‘Green Corridors’.

Engagement activities were held in 2021, followed by a more specific area-wide green corridors feasibility study in 2024. This was complemented by detailed discussion with pupils, teachers, and guardians at Roe Green and Kingsbury Schools to explore opportunities to walk, wheel and cycle to school.

In 2025, funding was secured from Transport for London Local Implementation Plan (LIP) to deliver a range of measures to reduce traffic speeds and volumes and supporting high quality conditions for walking in Kingsbury Green Neighbourhood. The initial measures to be delivered by Spring 2026 are focused on reducing traffic speeds by extending the 20mph zone and improving pedestrian crossings to make it easier and safer for people to walk, cycle, and travel around the area.
