Priory Park Road Pocket Park Consultation
The section of Priory Park Road outside Kilburn Grange School currently experiences problems of vehicle idling, poor air quality and a lack of community space and green infrastructure.
In 2024, a local resident’s association, Brent Eleven Streets (BESt), secured funding from the One Kilburn Community Fund for a project called ‘Kilburn Oasis’. The project temporarily transformed Priory Park Road into a green space through a series of events including a Car Free Day Street Party and Play Street activities and showcased local support and the need for more green and healthy spaces where communities can gather in Kilburn.
In parallel with the ‘Kilburn Oasis' project, Brent and Camden Councils have also been working closely on wider improvements to Kilburn High Road as part of the Better, Safer Kilburn scheme which aims to make Kilburn Town Centre safer and more accessible for walking, cycling and public transport. As part of complementary measures for this scheme, Brent Council are now able to progress a public consultation on a permanent pocket park on Priory Park Road.
This scheme is being funded partly through CRP’s Healthy Streets Everyday II (HSE II), a 3-year project supported by the Mayor of London’s Air Quality Fund in collaboration with 14 project partners. The project aims to address the issue of over-dependence on private vehicles, and the associated issues of poor Air Quality, Environment, Safety, Health, and Wellbeing across 6 London boroughs and 6 London Business Improvement Districts (BIDs).
Phases
Consultation
The proposed changes are described below:
- Pedestrianised section of Priory Park Road (between Glengall Passage and existing closure.) This section of street will be physically closed to all vehicles except cyclists and emergency services. Surveys have shown the vehicles that currently use the existing parking bays, can be accommodated in surrounding streets within the ‘KD’ Controlled Parking Zone.
- No motor vehicle restriction on section of Priory Park Road (between Kilburn High Road and Glengall Passage). This section will be enforced by camera with no motor vehicles permitted except for goods vehicle loading. Two new disabled parking bays are also proposed on The Terrace
New Pocket Park -The road surface between Glengall Passage and existing closure will be replaced with new paving, extensive greening and new street furniture. Local residents will have the opportunity to co-design the space as part of workshops held separately from this consultation.
