Have Your Say: Cecil Avenue (Wembley) Community Space

Brent Council and its delivery partner Wates is revitalising the eastern end of Wembley High Road, by building new homes, workspace, public space, and importantly a new community centre.

We want to hear what local people have to say and want from a new community centre.

This consultation exercise aims to engage with the local community to gather their input, ideas, and priorities for the uses and fit-out for the new community space in the newbuild housing development on the land at the corner of Wembley High Road and Cecil Avenue. This new community space is currently under construction in partnership with Wates and is part of the Wembley Housing Zone regeneration programme. We want to meet the needs and aspirations of the local community and ensure that the space is thoughtfully designed to reflect local preferences and complement existing facilities in the area.

The Community Centre will be located below one of the newbuild apartment blocks in the lower ground and basement floors. It will be a double-height space with a mezzanine level and will have direct access to an outside landscaped courtyard.

We want to:

Understand Your Community Needs:

○     Identify the types of activities, services, and facilities that people feel are priorities or that are missing in the local area.

○     Gather input on how the new community space can best address local needs.

Enhance the Local Area:

  • Explore opportunities for how the new community space can complement existing services and facilities already available in the neighbourhood.
  • Assess how the new community space can become a valued hub that fosters connection, activity, and engagement amongst local people.

Capture Your Ideas for how the space can best be used and fitted-out:

  • Learn about the community’s vision for the space, including layout, equipment, and usability.
  • Discuss how the double-height space, mezzanine level, and access to the landscaped courtyard can be effectively utilised.

Develop a Draft Fit-Out Brief:

  • Translate the feedback and insights gathered into a draft fit-out brief for the community space.
  • Ensure the design and delivery aligns with community priorities while remaining practical and affordable.
  • We will want operator review of the fit out - so it may change.

Due to half-term break we have decided to extend the closing date to provide more people the opportunity to share their views. If you haven’t taken part already, there’s still time to get involved. The closing date is now Sunday 22nd June 11:59pm.

19 March 2025 00:00 - 23 June 2025 23:00

This consultation exercise is a vital step in creating a community space that truly belongs to and benefits local people. We are committed to listening to and incorporating your ideas to shape a space that everyone can enjoy.

We want to hear from you - Please let us know:

● What is your Vision? How do you want to use this space?

● What’s Important? What will make this space most useful and inviting for you and your neighbours?

● What’s Missing? What facilities or activities do you feel the community lacks?

● What’s Already Working? Are there existing community spaces or facilities that this new space could complement or enhance?

Timescales:

Local people will be invited to a series of consultation events, first to be introduced to the scheme and then to gather comments and ideas. At follow up events the Council will explain how we reviewed the comments and ideas from the consultation events and included them into a draft fit-out brief for the community space. We will then take your final feedback.

The Council will also publish a short report at the end of the consultation, summarising the feedback received and how it was included into the draft fit-out brief.

At the end of the consultation, we will publish a short report summarising the feedback and explaining:

●     Local peoples’ expression of community needs and priorities for a community space.

●     Draft fit-out brief for the community space, informed by the consultation feedback.

How the community space can contributes meaningfully to the Wembley
