Scrutiny Committees. Make a suggestion.

Scrutiny is a key part of the local democratic decision making process. In Brent we have two scrutiny committees - the Community and Wellbeing Scrutiny Committee, which scrutinises adult social care, health, education, housing and children's services, and the Resources and Public Realm Scrutiny Committees, which scrutinises employment, regeneration, environment, transport and community safety. Although scrutiny committees have no executive decision making powers, they can review services delivered by the Council and its local statutory partners and provide accountability and a vehicle for suggestions for improvement and policy development. By holding the Council's Cabinet and local statutory partners to account, it ensures that services respond to the needs of local communities and are efficient, cost effective and easy to use.

The committees are led by your local councillors. The Community and Wellbeing Scrutiny is chaired by Councillor Ketan Sheth, councillor for Tokyngton ward.

The Resources and Public Realm Scrutiny Committee is chaired by Councillor Roxanne Mashari, councillor for Welsh Harp ward.

Scrutiny committees can investigate any issue that affects the local area and its residents, and councillors are keen to look at the issues that matter to you. Each of your the scrutiny committees set a programme of work outlining the areas they will look at during the year. The Scrutiny Work Programme is published in the summer of each year and this is your opportunity to make suggestions for a scrutiny committee to explore.

Would you like to suggest a topic to be considered by the scrutiny committees? Go ahead and submit your idea using the button on the right.

Do note that whilst all ideas will be considered, not all can make it into the final programme as not everything can be scrutinised in the time available. The current Scrutiny Work Programme for this year can be accessed by contacting the email given below.

Scrutiny committees also set up in-depth inquiries into particular issues or topics of local concerns and the public are welcome to get involved in these. The in-depth scrutiny inquiries currently planned or underway include the Budget Scrutiny Task Group, the GP Access Task Group and the Transitional Safeguarding Task Group.
