Sudbury Court Drive Local Safety Scheme

The Council is committed to the continued reduction of personal injury accidents (PIA) and improvement of road safety and as part of the recent review of our Long-Term Transport Strategy, have adopted a ‘Vision Zero’ approach to road safety, with the aim of eliminating all deaths and serious injuries on the borough road network by 2041. As part of our road safety programme for 2023/24, we are reviewing Sudbury Court Drive following a recommendation received from the Metropolitan Police and a recent fatal road traffic collision involving a vehicle making a U-turn manoeuvre at one of the gaps in the central reservation.

There are currently two gaps in the central reservation on Sudbury Court Drive between Watford Road and Harrow Road which allow vehicles travelling northbound and southbound to turn. The gaps are of an insufficient width for a vehicle to wait without the front or rear intruding into the dual carriageway. It is therefore considered there is a high potential for future collisions such as side swipes and rear end shunts at the two gaps.
