Project: Tiverton Open Space playground refurbishment.

Jay Richardson3 years ago There are more and more children and adults trying to play basketball but it’s difficult to compete with the football goals. It would be great to have a basketball court as a separate entity to the football. If this is done, then proper hoops and a backboard need to be invested in. Please see Turnpike Lane (as a perfect example). Also Finsbury Park, Cherry Tree Wood, Ravenscourt Park, and Hendon Park. I disagree with chain nets as they often fail, and then are a nuisance to fix. It’s easy to put up material nets, if the proper rings are purchased. And what with Basketball England providing them for free it’s cost effective in the long run! A large Perspex backboard and breakaway rings developed for outdoor use would be great. Like Turnpike Lane courts. If at all possible the wish list would include flood lighting to the outdoor gym and basketball courts to promote health and sport in the shorter days. Additional plyometric equipment to the outdoor gym would be great. For box jumps and varying heights of hanging/pull-up bars, additional TRX posts (like Queens Park gym).

PADDY BARNES3 years ago Several years ago when we were discussing potential improvements to Tiverton Green with the Parks Dept, it was felt that 'trim trail' equipment would be a great addition. It could be dotted around the large play area, near the climbing wall and would work for all ages, improving balance, strength and coordination, and for team equipment they can improve teamwork, problem-solving and logical thinking. Equipment could include parallel bars, monkey bars, swing bars, rope traverses, balance beams. Battersea Park has two areas with several pieces of trim trail equipment which are always popular.

Ryan Hack3 years ago There were many and significant issues outlined to you by Friends of Tiverton Green and most remain unresolved. Most pressingly now we need a significant and long overdue upgrade to the existing playground. I am shocked and quite frankly disappointed in the current state of the park. It is dangerous, especially as the zip-wire and swing are broken. There are huge gaps, and the slide is not fit for purpose. 1. Repairing the hole in the MUGA surface2. Cleaning up the paint spills in the MUGA surface 3, Removing graffiti from the bin seals and from MUGA surface. INSTALLING ALL NEW DUAL BINS IN THE PARK. 4. Repairing the cycle track signage ( as cycle track signage is missing from certain posts)5. Cutting the grass shorter and much more frequently6. Replanting the flower meadow on the west side of the park (there is no meadow area elsewhere)7. Clearing vegetation from the base of all younger trees and installing weed control matting around their bases with a covering of mulch8. Watering vulnerable young trees during periods of low rainfall9. Repairing damaged benches and other furniture (the two benches within the play park need to be urgently repaired/replaced) 10. Repairing and resurfacing cracked and dangerously subsiding paths11. Keeping paths clear of weed encroachment 12. Blocking the hole underneath the dividing fence between the main area and the cycle track. It is presently too high and is not touching the earth, so dogs are able to enter the cycle track. 13, Keeping the dog excrement bag dispenser topped up. There are currently no bags. 14. General litter clearance

Ruth Dar3 years ago The BP Ward councillor has told us there is £250,000 available for improvements to the Green - less £160,000 earmarked for the Playground - and sent this link to comment. Yet this consultation asks only for comments on the playground. I support all the suggestions so far.The Veolia contract must be enforced and include tree maintenance (including weed removal from their bases and pruning out dead wood and dead trees); grounds maintenance (including filling in holes under fences and making good); ensuring bins are repaired or replaced so that rubbish isn't carried off by foxes; etc.

Georgina Middleton 3 years ago Please consider best practice from Paddington Recreation ground, Holland Park and others. These play areas and are well designed using natural materials. There is no or little shade in the playground during the summer - please consider how this could be provided through planting. The climbing wall is rarely used - an alternative activity for children or an additional court / football practice area with a goal net would be welcome. The playground would ideally have equipment suitable for toddlers and older children (zip wires are popular and whilst the guidance states these cannot easily be maintained they have been installed successfully in Queens Park and Pad Rec).A multi-level play area would maximise play space and support imaginative play.

Max Kyte3 years ago spring load all gates so not left open for dogs/kids to escape bodyweight workout area (similar to primrose hill) water source for person/dog fountain renovation of football court (surface and metal surrounds) - no need for an open back to the goals labelled/designated eating area behind fences so that people eat food there and not in the main space. avoids people complaining about dogs wanting their food wooden built structure for shade/cover over benches

Anna Morgan3 years ago Remember the heatwaves we suffered last summer? They are more likely to affect people living in build-up urban areas as all the hard surfaces like tarmac, concrete, etc trap and radiate heat. However, green open spaces like Tiverton Green can make a big contribution to lowering urban heat levels. Accordingly, I'd like to see more trees (drought-tolerant varieties) planted to cast shade. The existing playground is open and unshaded. As another comment mentions, planting bigger tree specimens means they are less vulnerable to vandalism. A water fountain is also a great idea.

We've got plenty of facilities for our dogs, small children, recreational desires.I'm very suprised that £1/4m has been allocated to this, when there is such inequity across Brent. There are many more estates and areas of deprivation that would benefit very much more than Queens Park and Kensal Rise, already very well served with green space, play facilities, coffee houses etc etc.if there are people in the council bending to the requests of privileged noisy well-off people, over and above lower class areas with poor representations in power, then shame on you. Please consider your ethics council people.

Alexander Asseily3 years ago One of the best developments so far in Tiverton has been the landscaping and planting of trees that have brought back natural beauty, shade and biodiversity Likewise, the basketball court and the mini bike/scooter course for kids have been a huge success and appear to be appreciated by the community. On the other hand the climbing wall is rarely used because it's not exciting enough for kids and the play area has become dilapidated I have two primary suggestions based on the above: 1 - build a large wooden structure with towers, slides, bridges, climbing areas etc which requires very little maintenance but provide endless entertainment for kids of ALL ages. See attached photos for examples. 2 - build a dedicated rope climbing structure which is safe and can be used by kids of all ages. See attached photo for example. 3 - plant more trees - particularly ever-green trees to add biodiversity to the Tiverton Green and provide more shade / variety throughout the year.
