Zone GM CPZ
The Zone GM CPZ was originally introduced in 2003 and was subsequently divided into separate zones following a review consultation. The current scheme boundaries and operational hours of 10 am to 9 pm, Monday to Saturday, were established following public consultation undertaken at that time.
In recent years, the Council has received representations from both residents and businesses regarding the operation of the scheme. Residents have reported difficulties finding parking near their homes, while local businesses have expressed concerns that the late operating hours of the CPZ restrictions may be affecting customer access and trade. More recently, the Council received a petition from the area requesting a review of the CPZ operational hours, with a view to reducing the duration of the parking restrictions to better reflect local needs and circumstances.
This review is mainly focused on the operational days and hours of the Zone GM CPZ. We would like to hear your views on whether the current parking controls should remain as they are or be amended to operate for shorter periods during the day. The review also provides an opportunity for residents and businesses to identify any aspects of the scheme that could be improved. This may include comments on the location and type of parking bays, permit parking arrangements, loading provision, parking enforcement, or any other parking-related matters within the zone.
It is important to note that reducing the operational days or hours of the CPZ would result in fewer parking controls and reduced enforcement during the times when restrictions do not apply. Whilst this could provide greater flexibility for visitors and customers to park within the area, it may also lead to increased non-resident parking demand and reduced parking availability for residents during unrestricted periods. However, permit parking controls would continue to discourage long-stay commuter parking during the hours when the CPZ remains in operation.
Please note that any changes to the operational hours or days of the CPZ would not affect the cost of resident or business parking permits.
